Nucor Corp: Executives

Mr. Leon J. Topalian has been the Chief Executive Officer, President and a Director of the company since 2020. Prior to this, he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of the company. Previously, he served as an Executive Vice President of Beam and Plate Products from 2017 to 2019; and Vice President of the company from 2013 to 2017. Mr. Topalian held various leadership positions including the General Manager of Nucor-Yamato Steel Company and Nucor Steel Kankakee Inc; Melting and Casting Manager at Nucor SteelSouth Carolina; and Business Development Manager at Nucor’s corporate office. He also served as the Operations Manager for Nucor’s former HIsmelt joint venture in Australia and Cold Mill Production Supervisor at Nucor Steel Berkeley in South Carolina. He joined the company as a Project Engineer in 1996. He serves on the boards of directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute and the World Steel Association.

Mr. Stephen D. Laxton has been the Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Vice President and Treasurer of the company since 2022. Prior to this, he served as Director-Asset Management at Cinergy Corp.

Mr. David A. Sumoski has been the Chief Operating Officer of the company since 2021. Prior to this, he served as an Executive Vice President of Merchant and Rebar Products of the company from 2014 to 2020. Previously, he served as the General Manager of Nucor Steel Memphis Inc from 2012 to 2014; and General Manager of Nucor Steel Marion, Inc. from 2008 to 2012. Earlier, he served as a Vice President of the company in 2010.

Mr. John H. Walker has been the Chairman of the company since 2020. Prior to this, he served as a Director of the company from 2017 to 2019. Previously, he served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Global Brass and Copper Holdings Inc during 2007-2019. Mr. Walker served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Boler Company from 2003 to 2006; Chief Executive Officer of Weirton Steel Corporation from 2001 to 2003; and President and Chief Operating Officer of Weirton Steel Corporation from 2000 to 2001. Earlier, he served as the President of flat-rolled products for Kaiser Aluminum Corporation from 1997 to 2000. Mr. Walker was a Director of United Continental Holdings Inc from 2002 to 2016. He also serves as a Director of O-I Glass Inc and Otis.
