RusHydro (RusHydro) is an energy utility, that generates electricity, and transmits, distributes, and sells it on wholesale and retail basis. It produces electricity using hydro, ocean, wind, solar, and geothermal sources. The company’s services cover a vast geographical area, from St. Petersburg to the Primorye Territory, and from the Chukotka Autonomous Area to the Republic of Dagestan. RusHydro operates in more than 30 regions of Russia and its portfolio includes all types of power plants, except nuclear ones. The company has over 600 generation facilities with an installed electrical capacity of 38.6 GW and thermal capacity of 18.9 thousand Gcal/h. The length of the 0.4–220 kV electrical networks of the RusHydro Group at the end of 2024 is 110.3 thousand km. The company serves more than 270,000 legal entities and 4.4 million individual accounts in 11 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

RusHydro has undertaken several R&D initiatives to solve significant technological issues. These include the implementation of design development to reduce high-frequency resonant overvoltages on power transformers at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, which resulted in a significant reduction in voltage amplitude. The company also created an architecture for integrated solutions for managing energy flexibility in the energy supply system in Novikovo and Ust-Kamchatsk. Additionally, a research methodology was developed for dynamic loads on hydraulic structures from the effects of passing railway transport, which led to a comprehensive reconstruction of the railway track at the Kamskaya HPP. The R&D units of RusHydro include JSC Institute Gidroproekt, JSC LenGidroproekt, JSC VNIIG, JSC Mosoblgidroproekt, JSC KhETK, and the Research Center on the island. These units are responsible for the implementation of hydraulic projects at the international level, monitoring and operation of equipment and facilities, energy efficiency and water management, and engineering and design of hydropower facilities, thermal energy, electrical networks and hydraulic structures for non-energy purposes. In FY2024, it spent RUB1,205 million on R&D, which as a percentage of revenue stood at 2% and grew 11% YoY.
