Screen has undertaken various R&D initiatives focusing on the fusion and advancement of core technologies such as surface processing, direct imaging, and image processing. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, the company invested in expanding and strengthening existing businesses, particularly in the SPE segment, and promoted R&D in new areas like advanced semiconductor packaging, life science, and hydrogen-related fields. Key achievements include the development of the SS-3200 spin scrubber for 200 mm wafers, advancements in cleaning, drying, coating, and annealing technologies, and enhanced water management systems. The company also developed new products in the GA, FT, and PE segments, including inkjet printing systems, coater/developer systems for OLED displays, and the Ledia Qs direct imaging system. Collaborative efforts in life sciences and fundamental research were also pursued, including joint R&D with Kyoto University and the establishment of the SCREEN MIRAI Laboratory. The SCREEN MIRAI Laboratory, established on the University of Osaka Suita Campus, is a key R&D unit responsible for strengthening long-term R&D in the semiconductor field and emerging technology domains. It aims to co-create innovation that will drive business growth. The company has established a new overseas R&D site to further strengthen product competitiveness in the SPE segment. A major technology alliance includes a joint development agreement with imec to accelerate the development of equipment with superior environmental performance. Additionally, the company is involved in collaborative research with other overseas research institutions and Cyfuse Biomedical K.K. for developing OCT technology. In FY2025, the company incurred expenses of JPY31,705 million on R&D, which as a percentage of revenue, stood at 5.1%.
