Business Description
Rosatom is a nuclear technology company, which provides a wide range of services in the nuclear production chain, from uranium exploration and mining, uranium conversion and enrichment, nuclear fuel fabrication, mechanical engineering, NPP design and construction, power generation, nuclear facility decommissioning, and nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management. It integrates more than 450 enterprises and organizations, including research institutes, the nuclear weapons division and the world’s only nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet. ROSATOM operates its business through five divisions: Mining, Fuel, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, and Power Engineering.

R&D Overview
ROSATOM has undertaken various R&D initiatives focused on advancing nuclear technology and innovation. The company has implemented about 60 R&D projects as part of the consolidated industry-wide plan of R&D Topics (CIPT), focusing on materials and technologies, spent nuclear fuel reprocessing, nuclear medicine, and laser technologies. Notable achievements include the development of a mobile laser system for oil spill cleanup, production of components from Russian-made thermoplastic tapes, and technology for aircraft brake discs production. Additionally, ROSATOM has developed a cost-effective technology for producing rare earth metals and LPE technology for power diodes. The company has also been active in international projects, signing new contracts with partners from various countries and contributing to the construction of Bolivia's first research reactor. The R&D activities of ROSATOM are managed by JSC Science and Innovations, the holding company of the Research Division. The activities are grouped into three units: the Physics and Energy Unit, the Electrophysics Unit, and the Chemical Technology Unit. These units focus on specific disciplines and are responsible for the development and commercialization of technological competencies, as well as the search for and structuring of technologies for sale in domestic and foreign markets. ROSATOM has 12 companies within its Research Division directly involved in R&D and innovation activities. The company has obtained 3,150 foreign patents and filed 241 international applications. Rosatom is involved in major technology alliances, including international projects and collaborations with countries such as South Korea, China, India, the USA, Belarus, and Uzbekistan. In FY2023, the company incurred R&D expenses of RUB11.6 million.
