JSW is focused on developing and implementing industrial machinery and new materials to address social issues. The company is enhancing its core competencies in "melting," "mixing," and "solidifying" technologies, as well as "machine element technology" and "precision control technology." JSW is prioritizing the development of products and new businesses in areas such as new energy, energy conservation, information and communications, nanotechnology, materials, aircraft components, and new manufacturing technologies. The company is also promoting the expansion of industrial machinery, including plastic machinery and IT equipment, and is working on improving the profitability of existing steel-related products while commercializing products in new fields. JSW has established the Innovation Management Headquarters to consolidate and strengthen company-wide innovation functions. The company has reorganized its R&D organizations and established the Advanced Technology Research Institute (Aki-ku, Hiroshima City), the Materials Technology Research Institute (Muroran City, Hokkaido), and the Electronic Device Technology Research Institute (Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama City) as its R&D bases. These units are responsible for managing the company's R&D activities, including the development of new fundamental technologies and the integration of previous R&D functions. JSW has three R&D centers: the Advanced Technology Research Institute, the Materials Technology Research Institute, and the Electronic Device Technology Research Institute. In FY2025, the company spent JPY4,478 million, which as a percentage of revenue stood at 2%, and decreased 3.6% YoY.
