Toho Gas Co Ltd (Toho Gas) is a gas utility. It carries out the sale and distribution of city gas and LPG to residential, commercial and industrial customers and energy resources such as natural gas. It also carries out the sale of coke, petroleum products, tar products; manufactures and sells chemical industrial products such as plasticizers and methanol; manufactures and sells gas equipment, kitchen equipment, air conditioner equipment, water supply and drainage equipment and household electrical equipment. Toho Gas operates through four reportable business segments, namely, Gas Sales; Gas Appliance Sales and Related Construction; LPG, Electricity and Other Energies; and Other. In FY2023, the company’s capital expenditure stood at JPY39,729 million, which grew 1.8% YoY. Toho Gas serves 21 towns, 54 cities and one village in Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures.

Toho Gas’s research and development efforts focus on the development and utilization of carbon-neutral technologies along with digital technologies which contribute towards the creation of diverse value chains. It also promotes the use of natural gas by developing technologies for high efficiency and advance utilization. Moreover, the company is currently focused on developing various technologies relating to carbon neutral technologies, which includes: separation and recovery technology, methanation technology, city gas/hydrogen co-combustion technology in gas engines for cogeneration systems, development of hydrogen combustion burners and Midorihama Hydrogen Plan. In FY2023, the company spent JPY1,578 million on research and development which as a percentage of total revenue stood at 0.2%.
