Multiplay service revenue to grow at 1.5% CAGR in China during 2021-2026, forecasts GlobalData

Multiplay service revenue in China is set to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.5% from US$164.8bn in 2021 to US$177.5bn in 2026, supported by the growing adoption of tripleplay and quadplay service bundles that yield higher average revenue per user (ARPU), forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s China Multiplay Forecast Model reveals that though doubleplay service will account for the largest share of the total multiplay household subscriptions, its actual household subscriber volume will continue to decline through the forecast period. On the other hand, tripleplay and quadplay services’ share in the total multiplay household subscriptions will grow from 20.2% and 7.2% in 2021 to 28.3% and 10.4%, respectively, in 2026.

Aasif Iqbal, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The average monthly household spend on multiplay bundles will increase slightly from US$30.95 in 2021 to US$31.39 in 2026, supported by the growing adoption of tripleplay and quadplay services, which yield higher ARPUs.”

Quadplay bundles are especially growing in prominence in line with the growth in fixed mobile convergence household penetration, which is set to double over the forecast period from 10% in 2021 to 20% in 2026.

Iqbal concludes: “China Mobile will lead multiplay market in terms of subscriptions through 2026, as it has been focusing on leveraging its vast fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to accelerate multiplay adoption, with the goal of lowering churn and increasing revenue-generating units (RGUs).”
