Volocopter’s electric flying taxi is a milestone for urban mobility, says GlobalData

Following the announcement that the Volocopter test aircraft took its first flight in conventional air traffic near Paris in preparation for commercial flights from 2024;

Martina Raveni, Thematic Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers her view:

“The opening of this first vertiport terminal and the start of testing in an urban environment are significant milestones for flying cars, as they transition from science fiction to reality.

“Fully electric flying vehicles could impact urban mobility by the end of this decade. Indeed, according to a recent GlobalData thematic report, Tech in 2030, scalable flying taxis and other urban air mobility operations (UAM) operations will be available by the next decade.

“However, there are challenges to overcome before the widespread adoption of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in major cities worldwide. Regulation is a significant barrier, but the toughest challenge might be convincing citizens that flying vehicles are safe, secure, and controlled in low-altitude airspaces.”
