Business Description

Atara Biotherapeutics Inc (Atara) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing allogeneic, off-the-shelf T cell immunotherapies intended to treat serious cancers and immune-mediated conditions. Its scientific foundation is an Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)–specific T cell platform designed to enable rapid access to cell therapy without requiring patient-derived manufacturing, supporting scalability across multiple indications. The company’s flagship program is tab-cel (Ebvallo), an EBV-targeted T cell therapy for EBV-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (EBV+ PTLD). Ebvallo has received authorization in the European Union and the United Kingdom and is being advanced for broader use, including ongoing late-stage development in the United States for patients whose disease persists or returns following rituximab-containing regimens. Beyond PTLD, Atara is exploring additional EBV-driven diseases where EBV-specific cellular immunity could provide clinical benefit. Atara’s pipeline also includes engineered allogeneic CAR T-cell candidates aimed at B-cell malignancies and select autoimmune disorders. ATA3219 targets CD19, while ATA3431 is designed as a dual target approach against CD19 and CD20 to potentially enhance activity across heterogeneous B cell tumors. In parallel, the company is pursuing a next-generation EBV vaccine concept to address viral drivers earlier in disease biology.
