R&D Overview
FTEK has been focusing its research and development (R&D) efforts on new product development, particularly in pursuing commercial applications for technologies outside of its traditional markets. The company has been developing and analyzing new technologies that could represent incremental market opportunities. The company is also focused on finding new water treatment technologies such as the dissolved gas infusion systems. The company has also expanded its focus on R&D of new technologies for air pollution control, fuel and boiler treatment chemicals, computer modeling, and advanced visualization technologies. As of December 2024, the company had 36 granted patents worldwide including 13 US patents and 23 non-US patents. It also had five pending patent applications: two in the U.S. and three in non-U.S. jurisdictions. These patents and applications cover 41 inventions, 24 associated with the NOx reduction business, eight associated with the FUEL CHEM business, and nine associated with water treatment. In FY2024, the company spent US$1.5 million on R&D, which as a percentage of revenue, stood at 6.2%.
Business Segments
Overview
It includes technologies to reduce NOx emissions in flue gas generated by the firing of natural gas or coal from boilers, incinerators, furnaces, and other stationary combustion sources. These include Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction systems and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. The SCR systems can also include Ammonia Injection Grid and Graduated Straightening Grid systems to provide high NOx reductions at significantly lower capital and operating costs than conventional SCR systems. The ULTRA technology creates ammonia at a plant site using safe urea for use with any SCR application. ESP technologies make use of electrostatic precipitator products and services to reduce particulate matter. The FGC systems are chemical injection systems offered in markets outside the US and Canada to enhance electrostatic precipitator and fabric filter performance in controlling particulate emissions. Brands include TIFI, TCI, HClear, RECOVERY CHEM, ASCR, ULTRA, GSG, IMPULSE and I-NOx.
