R&D Overview
NTIC’s R&D initiatives focus on improving existing products, developing new products, reducing costs, and enhancing quality assurance through improved testing. Develops and manufactures bioplastic packaging solutions, including bio-based and certified compostable polymer resin compounds, as well as finished products. Produces a range of Natur-Tec resin compounds through a proprietary process known as the ReX Process. These compounds blend base resins, such as Ecoflex, Ingeo PLA, and Luminy, with organic and inorganic materials to create bio-based and/or compostable polymer formulations. These resins are engineered to offer high performance and ease of processing, allowing converters to use conventional plastic manufacturing equipment. Natur-Tec resin compounds are fully compostable and meet international standards such as ASTM D6400 and EN 13432, and are certified by organizations like the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and TUV Austria. These resins are used to produce flexible films for applications such as compost bags, carry-out bags, agricultural film, and specialty food service items, including drinking straws and disposable gloves. It also offers compostable extrusion coating resins for paper and paperboard, used in food service items like cups and plates, as well as compostable injection molding resins for products like cutlery, containers, and automotive components. The finished products offered under the Natur-Tec brand include fully biodegradable and compostable items like trash bags, agricultural films, and other disposable products.
