It operates through two main segments: Electric and Natural Gas Segment. The company serves three primary customer classes: residential, commercial, and industrial. Residential customers include single private dwellings and individual apartments, commercial customers consist mainly of main street businesses, and industrial customers are primarily manufacturing and processing businesses that turn raw materials into products. The company operates in Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska jurisdictions. In FY2024, the company incurred a capital expenditure of US$549.2 million which was 36.3% of the company’s total revenue and declined 3.1% YoY.

Consists of overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines that are interconnected with the transmission facilities of Idaho Power Company; PacifiCorp; Avista Corporation; the Bonneville Power Administration; and Montana Alberta Tie Ltd.

Produces, stores, transmits, and distributes natural gas in Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Montana Transmits natural gas from production receipt points and storage facilities to distribution points and other nonaffiliated transmission systems through third-party fixed-term purchase contracts and short-term market purchases. Has four major, unaffiliated transmission systems: NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd., Colorado Interstate Gas, Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline and Spur Energy. Operates two transmission pipelines through subsidiaries, Canadian-Montana Pipe Line Corporation and Havre Pipeline Company, LLC. South Dakota and Nebraska Transports natural gas for nine gas-marketing firms and three large end-user accounts in South Dakota and four gas-marketing firms and one end-user account in Nebraska.
