Nuscale Power Corp (NuScale) is a subsidiary of Fluor Corp, is engaged in the development of small modular reactor (SMR) technology aimed at providing safe, scalable, cost-effective, and reliable carbon-free power. The company's core technology, the NuScale Power Module (NPM), is designed to generate 77 MWe and is based on established nuclear technology principles. NuScale serves industries requiring carbon-free, reliable energy, including domestic and international governments, utilities, state-owned enterprises, and technology and industrial companies.

R&D Overview
NuScale’s R&D initiatives focus on innovative plant operations and services, introducing new product innovations, and lowering the lifecycle cost of their NPMs. The R&D team is also involved in developing new technologies to integrate NuScale SMR-based plants with various industrial applications, including steam compression and heating systems for industrial process heat, hydrogen production, storage and transport systems, and advanced micro-reactor technologies. The R&D unit of the company is responsible for maintaining active research collaborations with the DOE, universities, national laboratories, and industrial partners. This includes deploying state-of-the-art Energy Exploration (E2) Centers at universities in the U.S., Romania, Ghana, and South Korea, which provide training opportunities for the next generation of nuclear plant operators. As of December 31, 2025, NuScale had been issued 513 patents globally and had 286 pending patents, totaling 781 issued or pending patents. The company has established technology alliances with the DOE, universities, national laboratories, and industrial partners. In FY2025, the company incurred an expense of US$45.5 million on R&D.
