RWE AG (RWE) is an energy utility company, it has presence across energy value chain, from lignite production and electricity generation to energy trading and operation of distribution networks, and supply of electricity, gas and energy solutions. It serves residential, commercial, industrial, and corporate customers in Western Europe, Benelux, and Eastern Europe. RWE operates its business through five segments: Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind/Solar, Hydro/Biomass/Gas, Supply & Trading, Coal/Nuclear, and Others.

R&D Overview
RWE has undertaken a variety of R&D initiatives focused on enhancing sustainability and profitability through technological innovations. These initiatives include projects aimed at improving the use of renewable energy, maximizing energy storage potential, making power stations more climate-friendly, accelerating hydrogen ramp-up, and minimizing environmental impacts. Specific projects include the development of artificial reefs for biodiversity at offshore sites, improved lightning protection for wind turbines, the use of green concrete and reuse of wind turbine blades, and the testing of a flexible hydrogen/natural gas turbine. Additionally, RWE has developed an AI-based solution called DocumentDialogue for efficient information capture and sharing. RWE holds about 1,150 active patents and patent filings based on approximately 200 inventions. The company has driven forward more than 200 R&D projects with about 380 employees working on these endeavors. Major technology alliances include partnerships with ARC Marine for sustainable marine solutions and Kawasaki Heavy Industries for testing a novel gas turbine. In FY2025, the company spent EUR46 million on its R&D activities which was 0.3% of its total revenue and declined 8% YoY.

- Comprises of Dutch power plant Eemshaven It is fired with hard coal and biomass, battery storage systems as well as the project management and engineering consulting company RWE Technology International. - The stake in Austrian energy utility KELAG (37.9?%) is also part of this segment, along with the holding in Dutch power generator EPZ (30%). Trades electricity, oil, natural gas, biomass, coal and CO2 certificates. Markets electricity from its power stations and procures fuel and emission allowances required to produce it; and supplies gas to third-party companies, and concludes liquefied natural gas related transactions. Under long-term supply agreements with producers, it organizes gas transportation by booking pipelines and optimizes the timing of deliveries using leased gas storage facilities. Provides various services ranging from traditional energy supply contracts and comprehensive energy management solutions to risk management concepts. Conducts activities in New York, Singapore and Shanghai; and short to medium-term investments in energy assets or energy companies, majorly in the US. Operates through RWE Supply & Trading. In FY2025, the segment incurred a capital expenditure of EUR79 million, which grew 12.9% YoY.
