Distributes natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Operates, constructs and maintains natural gas pipelines and storage facilities. Operating companies: Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power. Alabama Power generates, transmits, distributes and purchases electricity. It retails electricity in ~400 cities and towns (including Anniston, Mobile, Gadsden, Montgomery, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa) and rural areas, and sells energy on wholesale basis to 11 municipally-owned electric distribution systems and two rural distributing cooperative associations. Alabama Power also sells and cooperates with dealers in promoting the sale of electric appliances and products, and markets and sells outdoor lighting services. Georgia Power generates, transmits, distributes and purchases electricity. It retails electricity in more than 530 cities and towns (including Athens, Macon, Augusta, Columbus, Atlanta, Rome and Savannah) and rural areas, and on wholesale basis to OPC, MEAG Power, Dalton, various EMCs and non-affiliated utilities. Georgia Power also markets and sells outdoor lighting services and other customer-focused utility services. Mississippi Power generates, transmits, distributes and purchases electricity. It sells electricity to 23 counties in southeastern Mississippi on retail basis in 123 communities (including Biloxi, Laurel, Hattiesburg, Gulfport, Meridian and Pascagoula) and in rural areas, and on wholesale basis to one municipality, six rural electric distribution cooperative associations, and one generating and transmitting cooperative.
