Tokyo Gas is focusing its research and development efforts on three main challenges: achieving Net Zero CO2, building a value co-creation ecosystem, and transforming the LNG value chain. The company is involved in various projects, such as producing e-methane using green hydrogen and captured CO2, investing in floating offshore wind power generation, developing a hydrogen combustion package burner, and creating a new method for installing solar panels on slate roofs. Additionally, Tokyo Gas has also developed a highly sensitive portable laser carbon monoxide detector and is working on a digital infrastructure development project to standardize and automate business operations across infrastructure management companies. At the end of March 2025, the company held over 2,241 patents, designs and trademarks. In FY2025, the company spent JPY7,206 million in research and development, which as a percentage of total revenue stood at 0.3% and declined 14.5% YoY.
