Verbund AG (Verbund) produces electricity from hydraulic, thermal, photovoltaic, and wind sources. The company strives to capitalize on its research and development plans to enhance and expand the Verbund start-up engagement program by concentrating on creating a portfolio for investing in start-ups and introducing new significant projects to lead to strategic innovation. The company intends to implement an ecological project at the Tittmoning basin of the Salzach River near the German-Austrian border. The project will involve restoring the riverbed and enhancing the river to create habitats and generate energy through a run-of-river power plant. The company is focusing on a site at river kilometre 40, where they propose to integrate innovative compact turbines into a ramp structure to stabilize the riverbed and generate around 30 GWh of hydropower. The company had 105 innovation, research, and development projects as of December 2022 with a total project value of EUR245.1 million.
