Oil India Ltd (OIL), an integrated energy company, carries out upstream, midstream and downstream operations. It is an integrated Exploration & Production company in the upstream sector. The company also produces Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and transports crude oil and refined petroleum products through cross country pipelines.

R&D Overview
OIL has undertaken several research and development initiatives during the FY2025. The company undertook feasibility studies on Synthetic Aviation Fuel (SAF) production from CO2. This is a collaborative study with CSIR-IIP, Dehradun, with the objective of exploring all the pathways reported in available literatures to propose a favorable route for SAF production from CO2, as carbon feedstock. It also worked on the on development of the additive for Diesel-Methanol blending, to achieve lower emissions of harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and carbon monoxide (CO). OIL’s produced water treatment coupled with resource recovery and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) study in collaboration with IIT Bombay aims to develop technology to sustainably treat Produced Water (PW) coming out from emulsion treater. The project also includes development of electrochemical and ozonation based processes for PW treatment along with ZLD and resource recovery. This also includes the development of carbon-based nanocomposites for photocatalytic removal of hazardous organic components from PW and synthesis of electroconductive fouling resistant nanofiltration and ultrafiltration membranes for PW treatment. Moreover, the company’s study on 2D-3D heterostructure based Green Catalyst for the Efficient Capture and Conversion of CO2 into Green Fuels via Artificial Photosynthesis aims to develop and optimize cost-effective and energy-efficient sustainable material and technologies to drive selective and highly efficient capture of CO2 from atmosphere, hydrogen generation through water splitting and sunlight induced direct conversion to Methanol. In addition to this, the company also works on the development of Oil Field Chemicals to achieve cost-savings. These savings were realized through ongoing efforts focused on the development of alternate products and vendors in key categories, including OSD Type I, LT OSD Type II, and Deoiler. The company has filed patent applications for one innovation. In FY2025, the company spent INR1,473 million on its R&D activities which was 0.4% of its total revenue and declined 1.3% YoY.

The company has domestic operations in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Mizoram, Puducherry, Rajasthan and West Bengal. It produces oil from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. The company's overseas upstream portfolio covers nine countries: Libya, Gabon, Nigeria, Venezuela, the US, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Russia, and Israel. Its overseas producing assets are Niobrara shale oil in the US; License-61, Vankorneft and Taas Yuryakh in Russia; and Carabobo in Venezuela. In FY2025, the segment incurred a capital expenditure of INR26,072.3 million, which grew 35.5% YoY.

Assets include cross-country oil pipelines, pumping stations and repeater stations. It transports the combined crude oil production of ONGCL and OIL in North-East India to the refineries in this region and imports crude from Barauni to Bongaigaon refinery. Operates a fully automated crude oil trunk pipeline between Naharkatia-Barauni. Operates a pipeline for evacuation of products from Numaligarh refinery to Siliguri. Leases optical fiber cable to other companies. It has a 10% participating interest in 741 km of multiproduct pipeline in Sudan. In FY2025, the segment incurred a capital expenditure of INR3,857.6 million, which grew 134% YoY.
